When motion controls are enabled, you can freely adjust the camera using the right stick-a marked improvement over the original game, as the Wii lacked dual analog sticks. The camera also becomes more cumbersome to control while using the button-only scheme. As a result, even simple actions feel more convoluted to execute. Rather than swinging your sword with a press of a button, for instance, slashes are performed by flicking the right stick in different directions, and you need to hold the right stick forward and press the ZR button to throw a bomb overhead.

Most of the actions you would normally perform using gestures have been mapped to the right stick, which means the button-only scheme is dramatically different from the controls in other Zelda games. Because so many aspects of the game were designed around the increased range of movements that motion controls afforded, the button controls feel like a cumbersome workaround. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that well. This new control scheme can be toggled on or off at any point from the options menu and allows you to play the game without motion controls. The biggest change in Skyward Sword HD, however, is the addition of button-only controls. That has largely been rectified here, and while she still speaks frequently in Skyward Sword HD, much of her dialogue is now optional, which makes her less bothersome and improves the game's overall pacing. Her constant interruptions made her one of the most grating aspects of the original game, especially as the "insights" she offered were often glaringly obvious. Like Navi and Midna in previous Zelda games, Fi serves as your companion for most of the adventure in Skyward Sword, frequently interjecting to relay story information and other hints. More substantial are the adjustments to Fi, the spirit who dwells within your sword. botw has a lot more to offer but skyward sword is full of charm and it's a fun adventure. Is it better than breath of the wild? personally not at all. Better control options, less annoying tutorials/pop up messages, visually it's far nicer (the old wii version looks awful on modern tvs), autosaves, camera controls etc. Having tried the original version on wii just a few months ago I can definitely say this is hands down the best version of the game.

Joycon drift is a big headache so I just couldn't handle playing with joycons. I also really appreciate that I can use a gamepad.

The quality of life features make the experience noticeably better. The art style really holds up and this is such a great version of Zelda (the character I mean). I'm a few hours in and really enjoying the game though. Unfortunately ports are a target for review bombing so the user score probably won't be that reliable as people who haven't played the game Unfortunately ports are a target for review bombing so the user score probably won't be that reliable as people who haven't played the game will just give it a 0. Take advantage of the newly-added button only control scheme-perfect for playing in handheld mode or on the Nintendo Switch Lite system. Movements feel smoother and more immediate thanks to the Nintendo Switch system’s increased processing power and HD graphics. Link will match the angle of each strike you make with the Joy-Con controller, creating immersive swordplay that relies on strategy and accuracy. Swing your sword and angle your slashes to uncover and break through opponents’ defenses using intuitive motion controls. Master realistic swordplay that matches your movements.
